Wav

Wav is short for wave form audio format. Wav is the standard that is used recording audio on personal computers. A wav file can hold compressed audio, but one of the biggest misconceptions is that a wav file is the same as a CD which it isn’t. A wav has to be transferred to PCM format before it can be transferred to a CD. Why is wav so popular then? It’s really simple these are the files that people share that usually has music that they can listen too on their home computers.

Wav does have limitations as the biggest file you can have is around 4gib in size. Musical file sharing has made wav the file of choice, but it doesn’t stop there though. Wav files have really become more popular as files used on internet web sites. Businesses are using wav to promote their business and whatever they want to sell. Wav helps them accomplish this because Wav is easy to use and adapt to a web site. The other big thing is wav is also a medium that people can listen too on their MP3 players.

Many of the newer MP3 players have the ability to listen to this format so this gives businesses, individuals and many others more opportunities to make wav files. Wav in recent years though has seen a steady decline in its use, even though businesses still use it for a lot on their web sites. With MP3 players and pod casting the future of wav is probably written on the wall and its death will be slow but eventually it will come. More and more formats are introduced and wav will be obsolete. That’s what happens and wav will have the same fate after awhile. People can still use it as computers read those files and will for a while.

Hopefully wav will stay around for a while and won’t be totally replaced for a few years. It does still have good uses, but the newer technology has so many more advantages I can see why people are switching to it very rapidly. I guess only time will tell how much long wav is around and how much consumers use it. The bottom line is if consumers keep using it then it will be around for a while, if they don’t then it won’t be it’s that simple.
