Lyrics have sure changed over the years and sometimes I wonder if it has been for the good or the bad. Many of today’s lyrics contain profanity and explicit words that many of today’s youth seem to love that. Song lyrics use to never be like this, so what has really made the change too drastic lately. It can basically be narrowed down to a couple of things, society and sales. No matter what anyone tells you when kids see a sticker that tells them it has explicit lyrics they tend to buy them even more. I think it really defends the purpose that the idea was originally intended for.

Through the years lyrics have adapted to changes in our society. We have gone from a one earning family to most of the time both parents working. Some of the lyrics now tell that. Rap lyrics have also had a big influence of how we see things and how violence has really become a big part of our society. As more and more violence is written in lyrics I think as a society we get use to it. Will we ever go back to clean lyrics that we heard a few years ago? Don’t count on it as people seem to like these explicit lyrics.

Sales of these songs are usually very high on the charts and record companies love that. Look for lyrics like this to continue to see growth as more and more is written about lifestyles that prevail in America. Lyrics always seem to hit an emotion with us as we read them or listen to them. People can remember when they first heard a lyric and what they were doing. Lyrics can make such an impression that they will request a song or sometimes they will even make a purchase.

That is how powerful lyrics can be. In today’s world there are now even web sites that are dedicated to just posting lyrics. Sometimes one line of a lyric will forever be etched in a person’s mind. That’s real power and an artist likes it when their lyrics touch someone. As you can see lyrics have changed a lot in a way and are also much like they use to be touching people and making people happy. In that respect lyrics are about the same as they were many years ago.
