Internet Radio

One of the newest media’s that has slowly caught hold is internet radio. Internet radio is basically listening to songs through your internet connection. I really thought internet radio would be more popular than it has. It could be many people don’t realize that they can listen to their favorite songs and stations on internet radio. Let’s look at what internet radio is for the average consumer who is on the computer.

Regular radio stations are now realizing that more and more people our on the internet and that they can still get them to listen to their shows online. This gains radio shows more listeners and helps radio station’s sell more advertising because they can pull more listeners with internet radio. Online internet radio has really grown as internet radio lets use change to whatever format you want. If rap this popular, you can go to that. From classical to country online radio stations seem to have it all. Free internet radio is all over the internet, but don’t search through the internet thinking it’s all free because some sites are not free.

Your local radio stations may not all be online as many are slow to adapting to this new format. The companies that do will greatly increase their bottom line. Will internet radio ever replace regular radio? That’s a very good question and it has a two fold answer. It will change the way we listen to conventional radio, but as far as replacing it I seriously doubt it. Older Americans are very loyal to conventional radio and will continue to listen as they hate change very much.

Internet radio still does have some problems to overcome. The biggest probably is getting people to understand there is such a thing as internet radio. As hard as it is to believe many people don’t understand internet radio or what it really is. Breaking through to people and getting them to understand it probably will take some time. The other big thing is getting content that people will want on internet radio and getting them to follow through by listening to it online. Internet radio will grow slowly and it will take time to get people to realize this new medium is here to stay. Hopefully people will give this medium a chance but only time will tell.
